How To Keep Your Kids Safe This Summer

Summer provides kids with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. That is great, but we have to think about how to keep them safe and healthy. Of course, the easiest thing to keep them safe is to avoid all swimming pools, playgrounds, rivers, lakes, summer camps – but we can’t do that.

Here is what you can do to keep your kids safe this summer!

how to keep your kids safe this summer

Sun Safety
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, even one sunburn during childhood will double your chances of developing melanoma in the future.

  • Limit children’s sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Get your kids into the habit of putting on sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every time they go outside.
  • Teach your kids that hat and sunglasses are cool.
  • Never leave infants, children, or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.

Water Safety
Swimming and other water activities are fun for everyone. Here is how to make it safer.

  • Be very cautious in unfamiliar waters.
  • Learn CPR for kids.
  • If you have a pool, install a fence around it.
  • Always supervise children when in or around water.

Playground Safety
Each year in the United States, emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children for playground-related injuries.

  • Check playground equipment before your kids start to play. In the summer, some equipment can be too hot to play on it.
  • Put together a summer first aid kit and keep it handy.
  • Use a kid-safe insect repellent.

Food  Safety

One thing that we don’t really like to talk about, but we should is toddler’s diarrhea. This is really common during summer months with all the heat.

Some great tips such as:

  • Avoid sugary foods and fried foods.
  • Keep him/her hydrated with plenty of water.
  • BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast).

If you’re travelling somewhere, I recommend you to buy a travel system stroller – you will be grateful to have one of those!

Well, we can do all this, but sometimes bad things just happen and we can’t do anything about it. Just be careful!
