How to raise a genius

Every parent dreams of raising gifted children. While signs of being gifted are always open to interpretation, a parent can always chip in to ensure that they optimize any gifts that the child may have at an early age.

You can offer your kids a boost to become better and even smarter than you in various ways. Just some simple steps to take to raise a genius – or at least to help your kid to nurture their potential.

How to raise a genius

1. Read To The Kid

Studies demonstrate that reading to your young one helps their brains make connections with the world and offers them lots of valuable knowledge. Experts advise that reading forms the foundation of knowledge. Therefore, by reading to your children you make learning easier for them and that is one easy step to take if you want to raise a genius.

2. Inspire A Sense Of Curiosity

Kids often want to know as much as they can about their surroundings. Sadly as they grow older that sense of curiosity tends to decline. Find ways to re-spark curiosity as your child grows older. Take them to interesting places such as museums, galleries, libraries and shows that help them learn and become better.

3. Praise Their Efforts Appropriately

Positive recognition inspires children. Do not overpraise the kid since this may instill overconfidence such that the child thinks too highly of him or herself. Doing so eventually leads to a stressed child when he or she is faced with tough encounters. Your praise should be an encouragement for the child to become even better.

4. Take Time to Teach Your Child

Genius may be born, but most skills are learned. Help your kid with homework and if possible teach them a new skill that they are interested in. You could, for instance, teach them how to play a musical instrument, how to code, chess or anything fun that the child will like.

5. Adjust the Way You Talk To Your Children

How you talk to your child should encourage him or her to think. Ask questions that stimulate the child to work out a feedback or response. Avoid baby talk; when you use sophisticated language, you can always explain what you are saying.
These are just simple ways of boosting the intelligence of your child during their formative years and to maybe raise a genius. You nonetheless do not have to overdo it. Let your kids grow and learn normally without putting too much pressure on them.

  1. My son is developmentally delayed. One of the bizarre outcomes is that I’m far less likely to compare him to other children or feel a pressure about him achieving certain things. That being said all your points are just as important with him in mind. Great ideas for how to stimulate and encourage children.

  2. I agree with all these points! As a homeschool teacher, I try to do all of these with my children on a daily basis, and most of our vacations include a museum or some other educational stop. Thanks for sharing!

  3. All great tips! Especially number 5–I don’t think a lot of people realize that the way we talk to our children really influences the way they speak and think. My 2-year-old is very articulate and uses some surprising words for her age, and when people ask me what I do, I always think of the scene from Meet the Fockers where Greg’s doing baby talk and Jack says, “Don’t infantilize him. Talk to him like an adult.”–Ha! Of course, I still do funny things and talk goofy with my kids, but when I’m conversing, I truly do talk to them like an adult. It helps!

  4. Reading is the number one way to teach and educate our children. I also agree with adjusting the way you talk. Using open-ended questions, allowing children to think things out rather than giving them answers… fabulous! I love the list you’ve shared here. So great!
